In the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes, blocs and mergers between unsuspecting countries have ensued over the topic of the juvenile justice system.
Cuba and Germany, with an expected merger have a shared opinion on rehabilitation centers and vocational education programs for juveniles in the justice system. Cuba also wants the criminal age to be changed from sixteen to eighteen, and giving juveniles proper education while in the system. Germany is focused on creating more hygienic detention centers, but with the close alignment of the two countries, you could expect similar changes.
In a twist of what normal tensions look like, China and the United States of America are in a bloc together. Their plan is to create a system of equal rehabilitation and punishment. They believe with their funding the can achieve what other countries will not be able to. Although hard to predict, with recent tensions, these plans may not go ahead, but only time will tell.
Down under, Australia is committed to remedying racism in the justice system as People of Colour (POC) and Indigenous Peoples are policed more than those not identifying with those groups. Australia wants to provide bias training to police and other workers in the justice system. Australia is also committed to fixing the hygiene issues as they believe the current state of detention centres is not a place where juveniles will be able to learn and rehabilitate, which is why, along with fixing the hygiene issues, they believe that community based rehabilitation centres will be of benefit to the juvenile population in the justice system.
Zambia is focused on prevention and education for juveniles in the system. Providing economic support to the struggling communities with more inadequacies can be used as a prevention measure. Zambia is also committed to more vocational programs as well as mental health support programs for juveniles in the justice system.
As seen, a common theme between countries is remedying hygiene concerns, adding vocational programs, and more rehabilitation centers.
