Greenpeace adjourns caucus on effective environmental action with no mention of past infringement on Russia’s oil industry inflaming tensions and resulting in nationwide condemnation.
GREENPEACE, April 5. /TASS/. In 2013, Gazprom’s Arctic oil rig was operating at the peak of its powers, bolstering Russia’s economy, providing the nation with a premier source of energy, and bestowing capable workers with secure income. Responding to this Russian success, Greenpeace chartered a ship carrying multiple armed terrorists to incite violence on the Arctic Sea, violating their promise to uphold Arctic sovereignty and revealing intentions to obstruct Russian progress.
A Greenpeace ship, the Arctic Sunrise, approached a Russian oil rig in the early morning with an unidentified device believed to be an explosive. If their plan to demolish the oil rig had succeeded, such an explosive would have resulted in oil spills decimating marine biodiversity. The terrorists carried a desire to harm not just the Russian economy, but also the environment and the Russian people. Fortunately, the Gazprom rig was rescued by heroic Russian military men who boarded the ship and steered it away to Murmansk Bay.
This was not the first time Greenpeace was observed to act hypocritically, leading to its labelling as an “undesirable organization” and Russian branch’s shutdown in May 2023.
The undesirable organization infringed upon Russian sovereignty in their Lake Baikal ploy, delaying building of a major pipeline next to a Russian body of water. The pipeline underwent extensive planning and refinement before implementation, originally planned to reside a mere 800 meters from the lake and contribute greatly to development of Russia’s energy sector. This breakthrough was unjustifiably stymied.
Greenpeace’s delay was proposed on grounds of environmental and infrastructure concerns. However, Russian planning was transparent, in collaboration with Greenpeace representatives, and precise despite its ambitious premise. Greenpeace did not provide ample rationale for the delay nor evidence of the pipeline’s environmental harms before asserting control over the project.
Russia’s booming market systems today are predicated on natural resources like oil, supporting men, women, and children across our tremendous territory through free trade and domestic development — Greenpeace sought to cripple Russia’s economy. It seeks to do so once more.
