With the second day of debates continuing on April 5th, new solutions are being brough to the table at the ECOFIN debate on addressing economic instability in developing nations.
While many solutions have been proposed, the ECOFIN committee continues to be split on its plan of action. Points have been made that the UN needs to stop just throwing money at the problem, the finance of developing countries is too unsecure, Libya mentioned the need to be sent towards a mission and not just towards the government where it can be used unresponsively.
To add on to their allies’ statement, Libya opens their argument: “We need our countries to thrive, not just survive.” The suggested approach to this argument was to set up temporary governments in order to ease developing countries into their power and prevent terrorist takeover.
While the idea was widely accepted, Iran suggested the implementation of anti-corruption policies in the UN.
The risk of governmental abuse through anti-corruption policies is yet to be seen, however, this proposition was generally accepted as well with the Half-and-Half block implementing it into their resolution.

Unmoderated caucus where resolutions are beginning to develop.
The Half-and-Half block has won many countries over with their promise of their multi-step plan to assist developing countries, starting with temporary governments, anti-corruption policies, and UN assistance.
Despite this, the other blocs are holding strong to their plans. It is yet to be seen whether the world’s young countries will have the support to thrive.
