SPECPOL Delegates Misuse Note-Passing Power

British Broadcasting Corporation, 12:47 am (PT)

Entering SPECPOL’s seventh committee session at CAHSMUN, an announcement was made by the chair in between the committee’s two un-mods. This announcement was made due to inappropriate use of the note passing system, causing delegates to feel uncomfortable as anonymous nations sent notes asking for other delegates’ phone numbers in “an incredibly rude and undiplomatic manner”, bringing the dais upon suspending note passing between delegates until the next un-mod. As well, the offenders of the note passing have been caught impersonating other delegations, although it has not been made clear who the offender(s) is(are).

Unfortunately, the BBC is unable to gain the other side’s perception of this situation, although if they wish to come forward and speak about their actions, feel free to contact the BBC immediately for interviews (can be found in the Parksville corridor, [which you can read about in various articles here,] and if not, somewhere in Vancouver).

“This is extremely disappointing to hear, as MUN should be a friendly and welcoming environment where delegates should not have to fear receiving notes with the written equivalent of cat calling, which is already a major problem regarding many female individuals today. As well, in the past two days, I have witnessed this happen to fellow delegates firsthand,” says the local SPECPOL delegate.

“I have A-U-T, I-S-M, AUTISM!” sings delegate after experiencing such assault from her fellow delegates, not once but twice. One can infer from these responses that the delegate is, “not at complete mental capacity,” as some describe.

Now the BBC will communicate the experience of a delegation affected by these notes in a limited edition interview here:

BBC: Good evening, this is Vienna Chou reporting for the British Broadcasting Corporation. The date is Sunday, the 6th of April 2025, and we have the pleasure of having one of the affected delegations with us here today to discuss this resolute topic.

The BBC has had sources inform us of serious matters that had occurred throughout the committee these past days, and we would like to share your experiences so that all can be informed of this terrible event. Is there anything you would like to inform us about before we start?

Anonymous Delegation: I would like to say that China is annoying and he’s very aggressive when he speaks.

BBC: I see. We will be sure to take note of that information.

Now, our first question to you is one of the most pressing: did you end up giving the writer your number?

Anonymous Delegation: Just no.

BBC: Ok. And what were your first reactions when you received these notes?

Anonymous Delegation: My friend put it under a water bottle and crushed it. I didn’t really feel anything.

BBC: No sense of panic whatsoever?

Anonymous Delegation: *shakes head. I only felt something when a delegate impersonated someone else and sent another note containing the same information.

BBC: Could you give us any further information/details written in the note or would you like to keep its contents anonymous?

Anonymous Delegation: It’s weird.

BBC: We understand. Now, do you have any idea if this was intentional or just a joke?

Anonymous Delegation: I don’t know.

BBC: We see. Is there anything else you would like to describe to us?

Anonymous Delegation: No.

BBC: Ok. Thank you so much for your time here, we know that this information can be difficult to share and process, and we sincerely appreciate that you decided to express your view of this situation to the BBC.

Anonymous Delegation: Thank you.

BBC: Thank you as well.

Concerning these current affairs, it can be safe to say that with the dais’s decision in eliminating note passing, that the problem has partly resolved. However there has been no sign of apology towards the delegates affected so far, and tensions have been reported to continuing to affect delegates. This is a serious matter that must be shared with the rest of the conference, and a message from the victims to sincerely, “just stop.”
