The prolonged question that every IPC delegate fears has finally been brought to formal discussion: is IPC an actual committee?
To be statistical, “everyone” claims that IPC is not justifiable except for IPC delegates themselves. In the perspective of all delegates other than IPC, they consider the committee as the secret “impostors” of MUN conferences. The best possible reasoning for this opinion is that the IPC committee does not speak or debate, though instead writes articles about what occurs during other committee sessions. The committee provides critical information to other nations, being responsible for sharing the miscellaneous events in CAHSMUN with the entire conference.
The opposition says otherwise:
“They loom around, homeless, and parasitic, as if they rely on other committees to survive. I’m not sure whether the term virus or parasite suits them better. But either way, they are heavily reliant on other committees, challenging the authenticity of this committee.” This was stated by the SPECPOL delegation representing Austria, who has had multiple experiences with IPC during the conference.
“IPC is mean. Like we’re here trying to protect the environment and you’re drawing pictures of plants and ripping them up in front of us. So they’re mean,” says Greenpeace delegate, of whom the committee has been repeatedly recorded to have “beef” with the IPC committee. However another GP delegate mentioned how IPC was “beautiful”, though it could not be deciphered whether or not the individual was being sarcastic or not.
Others like DISEC and UNODC delegates have (allegedly) not even heard or met the IPC committee, asking, “What’s IPC?” and claiming, “They didn’t even come into our room,” even though there have been multiple articles published about the UNODC, including by the BBC.
This is what IPC delegates had to say in response to these assertions:
“Well, in technical terms, we are a committee because we are listed in the committee page on CAHSMUN. You know, what really makes a committee? What are the requirements? It hasn’t quite been specified, therefore I believe that we are a committee, deep in our hearts.” says fellow IPC delegate “hesitantly.”
In the end, it is up to the reader to decide whether or not IPC is a “true” committee, but regardless of what the public thinks, many can say that IPC will be known as special, prized, and iconic.
