
(CNN) – Today on April 5, 2025 the Senate reviewed Bill S-100 and Bill S-101.
Bill S-100 focused on the housing market. This bill put forward the idea of federal tax exemption regarding economic revitalization and the removal of GST on residential properties for first time home owners.
The bill also talked about municipalities having to give 10% of land for residential zones. Bill S-100 also hopes to increase funding for budget allocation in this sector.
Senators also went over the idea of reinvestment into the Canadian market to generate flow in Canadian-based businesses and industries. The Bill also issued that Canadian natural resources will be traded more to increase the domestic market.
Although they would like to increase exports to countries like India and Africa, but want to abolish foreign imports into Canada and increase jobs for Canadian workers.
The Senators also wanted to repeal Bill C-69 and and state that municipalities have up to 120 days to sign off on a building permit, which was then amended to 130 days during Bill amendments.
The Bill also stated that monopolies would be split if they broke Canadian law.
The second bill, Bill S-101, also known as the ASHES ACT stands for Affordable and Sustainable Housing Act. Senators were also hoping to launch a national inquiry for price gauging.
Bill S-101 also increases minimum wages based on inflation, it was later elaborated on during question period that most minimum wage jobs are in big corporations not small “mom and pop shops”, so small businesses will not face difficulties with this clause.
They would like to increase funding for international trade and the transportation sector to create more ports.
This Bill also heavily supports increasing maritime trade and finding new main trade relations in light of recent complications with US trade.
