(CNN) – The Senators were going over their respective bills for the final time before presenting the bills that would impact the lives of all Canadians.
They discussed the issue of public infrastructure in Canada and how every community should be given equal resources and funding to help them live a better life.
Senator Judy A. White stated that we should “help towns flourish rather than diminish”.
The Senate went over the topic of marginalized communities and Indigenous peoples that are facing terrible housing conditions, as well as Canadians who live in impoverished areas due to the high cost of living. Senator Margo Greenwood adds that “their basic needs are neglected.”
“We cannot have houses in the middle of nowhere,” states Senator David Richards. He goes on to strengthen this statement by bringing up the fact that they clearly do need more housing because of the current housing crisis in Canada, but cannot build houses so far from other communities that they are not connected to. It is important that these houses are built in a way that is accessible for all members of said communities so they can foster relationships within their community and others as well.
Just building houses does not increase the living standard of Canadians. We must take action to build roads and other transportation as well to create a better and safer Canada for them.
With all this talk about funding and resources for public infrastructure with no valid or reliable source, Senator Scott Tanas questioned, “Where does the money come from it does not grow on trees?” He also asks if the funds will be allocated by pulling back well-fare programs.
This topic of funding also came up when the Senate was going over Bills S-100 and S-101, questioning where they would be getting all of this money. Will it be from areas that are beneficial to Canadians, such as the transportation sector?
