IPC: Overtake III

After a hearty lunch, all delegates return to their respective committee room. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and there is not a problem in view. The International Press Corps (IPC) sighs in their joyous relief, but it is not long until the Greenpeace (GP) committee raids their sanctuary once again. This time, it is much more aggressive: delegates stampeding, loud howling, and a delegate attacking IPC for the freedom of the press. What blasphemy!

But suddenly, it is quiet once again. There is but a whisper in the wind in the sacred corridor, and all of a sudden, the plead of a GP delegate: begging, screaming, crying, for a resolution paper vote breaks the thick tranquility. The invading bloc refuses, and IPC is stuck in the middle of it all again. Emmly, the IPC Chair, sighs into her work. She begins reviewing each report at the speed of light, with nothing crossing her path. And suddenly, the harmonious voice of the Greenpeace Chair echoes through the long hallway: “It’s time to come back!”

The invading Greenpeace bloc rushes out of the room, like a rapid gust of wind, or the ocean’s waves flooding by. In a mere second, they are gone, and IPC is safe once again.

IPC’s safety is still at risk. There is a substantial risk that the Greenpeace delegates will return, and interrupt the quiet nature of a journalist’s peace of mind. And suddenly, the Parksville door bursts open. Greenpeace delegates flood out, ready to take their committee photo. They invade the opening of the sacred corridor, and force the reluctant journalists of The Onion and Buzzfeed News to retreat further back into the hallway.

Commotion is everywhere. There is no doubt that the quietness of the International Press Corps is in danger from Greenpeace’s harm. But as quickly as they appeared, Greenpeace had retreated to the Grand Ballrooms. The IPC dais sighs in relief; however, they know that their safety is not prolonged. Greenpeace will return. Therefore, the question it all leads to is the following: Will IPC be safe for an extensive period of time? Or will they face a fate that no IPC committee should face?
