Financial Times In DISEC

April 5th, 2025

In the 5th session of CAHSMUN, in DISEC, the resolution papers are being brought up. The topic at question is rising extremism. There are two main blocs: the Umbrella Bloc and the Crumpet Bloc.

The Crumpet Bloc’s solutions included in their resolution draft are to create a fund pool dedicated to foreign and humanitarian aid and to make a UN body for public and private partnerships that are funded by supporting nations. When asked how the block would deal with education, they plan on using Literacy One International. The organization is said to focus on helping modernize education systems. The main aim is to bring undeveloped nations up to par they stated.

The Umbrella Block consisting of Romania, The United States, Poland, and the DRC suggest a funding pool for non governmental organizations to support education. It was also brought up that the bloc intends to use AI to fact check online. The AI would be overseen by humans. It has also proposed the creation of a data base containing free, unbiased information for everyone. This would be using the help of the general public.

The Financial Times believes both of these blocs have interesting ideas, and effective education plans, and questions what DISEC is doing proposing the creation of a general data base as if we don’t already have the internet. We at the Financial Times see this as a waste of resources and money along with some other delegates.
