As the United states shows more and more uncertainty toward their trade partners, fiery speeches can be heard in the Canadian senate about what to do about these outrageous demands of Canada and their long standing agreements with the United States of America.
Senator Judy A. White was clear when speaking that it was a undeniable truth that these tariffs are nothing but a selfish demand with no benefit towards any other country; not even Canada, a long term trading partner, was safe from these tariffs. The senator even commented that President Donald Trump was unfit to lead a country.
Most members of the Canadian Senate firmly stand behind the belief that Canada needs to move past their former trade partner and work not just internationally, but within their borders. Senator Denise Batters and Kim Pate propose that encouraging American workers to join the secondary and tertiary industries in Canada will not only help the Canadian economy, but also help those who will take a hit financially with the implementation of Trump’s tariffs.
The Canadian senate also see that in these times of crisis, it is mandatory that we look to international trade partners such as the European Union. As Senator Marty Deacon stated, “We must show to the US that we won’t do whatever they expect us to do”. This was stated to help the Canadian citizens and stabilize the economy as Canada aim to become more economically self sufficient.
It seem that Canada and the Canadian senate shows no sign that they will let the Trump administration do what they want as they passionately debate how to counter these tariffs.
