Automated weapons: Should you be worried?

Well DISEC is split.

Opening this session of the committee of DISEC the committee brings weighs the pros and con involved with the possibility or automated weapons involved with the future of warfare. Delegates representing countries from across the world all speak on different ways they wish to see automated weapons evolve and if it is even ethical to see these advance.

The delegations of The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Yemen and the U.A.E. hope to never see automated weapons in the hand or the military as the D.R.C stressed “A machine can’t determine who to kill and who to let live”. They believe that it is too dangerous to keep and that it takes everything meaningful from taking a human beings life turning a act of cruelty to a statistic.

On the other hand the delegation of The United states has the strong belief that there should be no limits to advancing this new tech as it makes finding and eliminating hostile forces “fast and efficient” and that using it for home land defense is practically needed to protect the citizens of DISEC nations.

However many nations choose to pick in between these two beliefs and that is the total end in advanced weapons powered either by AI or advancing it without any limits. Countries like the Netherlands, Canada, Russia firmly believe that the move towards these new technologies must be carefully approached to not create unstoppable killing machines. Canada in particular favoured using them for defending the country and finding an eliminating enemies of their sovereignty.

It is very clear to that the future of automated/ai powered weapons are at the very least uncertain and DISEC must find a way to limit or come to a agreement of what they want to see the future of these weapons to be.
