Resource extraction in Antarctica has been continuously debated within the Atlantic Treaty System Committee, and the situation has now descended into crisis as seven anonymously-built oil rigs are found on the coast of the continent. Opposition to its construction is fierce as countries express their outrage over the environmental and geopolitical consequences that the oil rig poses. Members of the treaty have lost trust among each other as China attempts to declare war against the USA and Uruguay reveals itself as the alleged perpetrator. Extreme times call for extreme measures as Pakistan suggests to build a military base in Antarctica and “arm the penguins” against incoming attacks.
