The United Kingdom and Russia work together to undermine the United States’ and China’s arguments about environment and economic opportunities.

As county opinions clash, abnormal alliances are formed. The delegation of Russia and the United Kingdom are attempting distance themselves from the majority bloc, China, and the United States. Arguments break out about whether it is morally right to drill the Arctic for financial gains.
Most of the delegations agree that climate change is primary issue that needs to be addressed. However, opinions vary while addressing the root issue of the problem. The China and US bloc believes a ban on natural resource extraction and a heavy restriction on tourism would be fundamental in curbing climate change.
“Building infrastructure in the region is hard, many resources and billions of dollars would have to be spent in making the project. It’s not worth it,” they explain. Furthermore, China believes that developing nations cannot be left behind technologically. “Developing countries can’t support themselves, we need to give them clean renewable energy to move forward,” China says.
The United Kingdom and Russia bloc counters these points by saying that respecting national sovereignty must be the priority and supporting limited oil drilling and tourism has to continue. They attempt to undermine the United States comments by describing the colonialist nature of these countries, proposing a more “open minded” bloc that is open to compromises. Furthermore, they paint the picture of the economic benefits of drilling oil and getting tourists into the region.
“The United Kingdom is open to compromises, something that the other bloc is not supporting. We believe that when the US and China give international aid to developing countries, they would become increasingly reliant on them. This is something that we [UK and Russia] don’t want.”
As these blocs finalize their positions, more arguments about morality and expectation will be revealed.
