We live in a world where information can easily be used to change opinions, form biases, and alter beliefs. To this day, people of all ages are constantly being exposed to misinformation, leading for a very pressing political issue. If action is not taken immediately, the effects of misinformation will continue to get worse and worse. Many countries are offering funding to help support education in schools in order to help solve this issue that is rapidly spreading around the world. However, many countries are doubtful that funding will truly stop this issue, or if this issue is worth applying to Commonwealth itself. Samoa recently stated on behalf of other countries that there are not enough funds to solve this issue at this time. This was met with support from some countries, and disagreement from others.
The controversial topic of misinformation has been met with great discussion from the Commonwealth, and so far, there have been multiple responses. Many countries believe that this issue is extremely pressing and must be dealt with immediately, while others believe that there are far more pressing issues at this time. Many countries state that dealing with and teaching about misinformation, especially through social media platforms, is both helpful and needed. However, other countries have reiterated that funds are not needed nor are they able to be provided at this time. This is a controversial issue that brings division between many participating members of the Commonwealth and is valuable food for thought.
